Kyle's Daily Bread

I swore I was only ever getting one...

My mother liked to decorate with pigs. There were paintings, wooden, ceramic and other varieties scatter around our home. My father's favorite thing in the world was to go skiing. So 3 years ago, on the anniversary of my mother's passing, I decided to memorialize both by getting a tattoo. And what better image than a skiing pig! So I found a local tattoo establishment and worked with the artist to develop this image. It's on my left shoulder and was the only tattoo I was ever going to get...

The problem was that I really like the whole experience! So after enjoying my skiing pig for several months I felt the itch, figurative not literal. So back I went. I was still thinking of my parents, who would not have approved of my inking, so what to do? My mother loved red geraniums and my father was a stock broker. So why not a basket of red geraniums with a copy of the Wall Street Journal, adorned with a bit of old fashioned ticker tape on my right shoulder? But 2 is it! No more!

Well you guessed it! As much as I loved the tattoosI REALLY liked going to this place. And so after a few months I felt the pull. But what to get? 2 tributes to my parents seemed enough. What else could Get? Well, without hosting a pity party, to date I've had 9 surgeries of various types. So I came up with a design that I presented to my artist. She gently told me it wouldn't work where I wanted to place it. She said she knew what I was thinking and to let her play with it. Her scalpel nailed it! The roman number 9 (IX) can be converted to 10 (X) should the need arise.

Several of the aforementioned surgeries involved my spine. I presented my artist with an image from a recent MRI. She took it from there. Yes my spine is that crooked and yes I do have that hardware. I love how her flowers soften it up a bit.

As the slope got slipperier, this idea allowed me to slow things down a bit. While sitting in her chair one day I was admiring the Kewpie Doll flash she had on the wall. So how to use them? We came up with the 2 sides of my personality, one for each arm. This had to be done in separate sessions, thus slowing me down a bit!
